Henllan Bakery is a proud fifth-generation family business with roots stretching back to 1908. Originally founded in Henllan before relocating to Denbigh in 1975, the bakery has remained at the heart of North Wales ever since, growing into a respected wholesale operation known for quality, scale and strong values.
Today, Henllan Bakery employs 140 people and operates as a 100% wholesale bakery, delivering daily and weekly to over 1,000 independent stores and major supermarkets across Wales and the borders. Their most popular line, the White Baps x4 pack, has become a favourite with customers far and wide.
Henllan Bakery was recently crowned both Wales Bakery of the Year and National Bakery of the Year at the National Bakery Awards, a reflection of their consistent excellence and commitment to their craft.
What truly sets Henllan Bakery apart is their people. As Production Director Tom Moore explains, the team sits at the heart of everything they do. Many employees have been with the business for more than 15 years, with some dedicating over 30 years of service to the bakery. This loyalty is a testament to the strong culture Henllan has built, one where experience, pride and skill are deeply valued.
The bakery places great emphasis on developing talent from within. Their management team has progressed through the business via a variety of pathways, with many starting their careers as apprentices. Long-standing colleagues continue to pass on their knowledge, ensuring the bakery’s values and standards are carried forward through each generation.
Henllan’s commitment to training is further demonstrated through their Crafty Apprentice Scheme, which welcomes five to six apprentices every year. In January, the bakery is due to complete new NPD and training facilities, providing more classroom-based learning alongside hands-on bakery experience.
Sustainability also plays a key role in Henllan Bakery’s future. They have developed a carbon reduction plan for the business and installed solar panels capable of powering both sites on sunny days. Additional initiatives include LED lighting throughout the bakery, water harvesting for cleaning vehicles, a green electricity contract and the growing introduction of electric vehicles into their fleet.
