Duncan Hindley Nominated as President Elect
The Craft Bakers Association is delighted to announce the nomination of Duncan Hindley as President Elect.
A fourth-generation baker from both sides of his family, Duncan's connection to the baking industry stretches back more than a century. His maternal family operated Garratts Bakers in Lichfield, with his great-grandfather, Fred Garratt, serving as President of the Association in 1935. On his paternal side, the Hindley family bakery was established in 1893 and continues to be a respected name within the craft baking sector today.
Duncan's journey into the family business followed a varied early career. After serving in the Royal Navy, he gained valuable experience with both Sainsbury's and Greenhalgh's before joining Hindleys Bakery in 1990.
Over the past three decades, Duncan has played a key role in guiding the business through significant changes in consumer habits and the evolving high street. Throughout this time, he has remained committed to the values at the heart of craft baking: quality, community, innovation, and investment in people.
Today, Hindleys continues to thrive through its bakery shop in Lichfield, regular appearances at farmers' markets, popular breadmaking courses, and a distinctive ownership model that sees 75% of the business owned by members of the team. This approach reflects Duncan's belief in empowering people and creating a sustainable future for the business and the wider baking industry.
As President Elect, Duncan is looking forward to meeting members across the country, learning more about their businesses, and championing the craft baking community.
Speaking about his nomination, Duncan said:
"If you'd like me to visit your bakery, please contact Jan at Head Office to arrange a visit. I'll even bring my whites!"
Duncan's extensive industry experience, family heritage, and passion for supporting fellow bakers make him a valuable addition to the Association's leadership team. We look forward to working with him over the coming years as he prepares to take on the role of President.
Please join us in congratulating Duncan on his nomination as President Elect.
