Brackmans Bakery – A Family Legacy Still Going Strong

May Member of the Month: Brackmans Bakery, Salford

Tucked away in Salford 7, Manchester, Brackmans Bakery is a cornerstone of its community—and has been for nearly a century. Founded in the 1930s and taken over in 1964 by Andrew Addleman’s father, this family-run bakery has proudly kept its heritage alive, serving generations of loyal customers.

Owner Andrew began working with his dad at just 16, training at Salford Tech but learning the heart of the trade side-by-side with family. Now 54, he’s still as passionate about baking as ever—despite the 5am starts!

Brackmans specialises in traditional Jewish baked goods, including their best-selling challah loaves, bagels, and treats for Jewish festivals like Purim, Shavuot, and Rosh Hashanah. From poppy seed-filled Homentash to rich honey cakes and thousands of doughnuts for Chanukah, every item is made with authenticity and care.

In 2000, they expanded to include a coffee shop—fulfilling a long-held dream. Today, Brackmans employs 15 dedicated team members, some of whom have been with the business for over 20 years. Andrew’s teenage children now help on weekends, and his parents still lend a hand—his 82-year-old mother serving customers and his 86-year-old father ensuring every bake meets their high standards.

One standout detail? They still use their original Tom Chandley brick oven alongside modern electric ones. As Andrew says, "the taste of the bread from the solid heat that the brick oven gives out is incomparable!"

Brackmans has been a proud member of the CBA for decades. Andrew shares, “They’ve been fantastic over the years whenever we’ve needed help—HR, health and safety, you name it.”

We’re proud to spotlight Brackmans Bakery as our May Member of the Month—a business built on passion, tradition, and community spirit.
